The Blogging Wealth Gap : What Went Wrong? Is a free report by blogging expert David Risley that you can get a copy of by visiting his site here http://www.blogwealthgap.com/
It is a great read and very timely for me as I have times when I think “why am I stressing myself out with this internet marketing and blogging thing” Having moved from internet marketing into what I prefer to call online business building and sort of back to internet marketing because that is what people are searching for (always remembering that what you do online must focus on what people are looking for not what you think is best!) it definitely provided another boost to let me know I am on the right path.
One of the biggest factors that influenced me in finally making money online was not one of the many expensive courses I invested in but actually just realising something quite profound. That I was being “marketed to” and not being the marketer! I was learning and spending money on my internet education (an essential thing to do to succeed) but I was not using it to become the marketer. When I realised that back in early 2008 everything changed for me and finally I began making money.
Well David Risley’s excellent report focuses on that to a large degree. That bloggers who are not enjoying an income from their activities are probably not marketing – and let’s face it most of us suck at marketing! I know my strength lies in teaching, I am great at taking any topic and breaking it down to make sense to the most technophobic newbie but my marketing was totally useless, not because I didn’t understand what to do but a lot of the time I just wasn’t doing it!
I would set up a new blog or create a new information product and then move on to the next thing! I spent no time on marketing at all and then I wondered why I had all this non profitable stuff! For me being on the internet has been a real journey, it has been start, stop, reflect, realise mistake, correct it, move forward, start, stop, reflect etc etc….. then some 24 year old newbie would make $17,000 in 2 minutes and I would scream!
The one thing I have always held on to is that being on the internet is about building a presence for me. I could go off and sell different products in different niches but that really doesn’t appeal to me. I have a real desire to help people and connect, to build relationships and to know that what I write makes a difference. To do that I need to build my authority and I guess that is what I have been doing over the last few years.
The biggest plus for me was joining Jack Humphrey at Blog Success in January because being Membership Manager has helped me fulfill that desire to support people but to also realise that what I know and share does make a difference to people and I know more than I give myself credit for. It really is time to step it up and get myself heard in a big way.
Reading David’s report has made me even more determined to finish my “Mindset of a blogger” ebook which focuses on the importance of being the marketer and running your blog as a business if your intention is to build an income for yourself. In the meantime you can gain access to my marketing tips that focuses on UK internet marketing and UK internet marketers (mainly) in the hope of continuing to carry the torch that Robert Puddy started back in 2006 with the BritPack and UK timed teleseminars.

Thanks for the kind words about the report, Diane. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
It is so true, though. Most bloggers still seem to start out with the idea “if you build it, they will come”. It doesn’t work.
